|No sooner had Gideon died than the Israelites again prostituted themselves to the Baals. They set up Baal-Berith as their god and did not remember the Lord, their God, who had rescued them from the hands of their enemies on every side~Judges 8:33-34
When I think of the story of the Israelites, I think about this generation and although we may say that we are definitely not that bad, we are in fact that bad.
Whenever the Israelites faced troubles, they quickly turned back to God and held fast to his instructions, but as soon as they were at peace again, they turned back to the worship of Baal and other idols. Whenever we face troubles of many kinds, we quickly turn back to Church, to God, to pastors and we become of fire for Christ. After he delivers us from our troubles, we quickly turn away from him and put that fire in our hearts out until the next struggle comes.
What have we turned our service of God into?
When God blesses us with a job, we often turn that job into a Baal and start to worship it more than we do God. We start to skip Church so that we can work…we start to rush off in the morning before we talk to God. When God blesses us with a relationship, we start to glorify that person more than we do God. We stay on the phone with that person for hours, that person fills our hearts and our thoughts so much that God has no more room in us. Whenever he blesses us with anything, we start to worship that thing as Baals. We are just like the Israelites!
We are the Israelites!
Scary as that may sound, I take a look at the history of the Israelites and everything they did and went through, and I can totally see myself in there. We take God’s grace for granted so much that it disgusts me. We only come to him when we need something and after he has given us what we need, we turn away from Him! How does that make you feel?
You are Israel
So Israel, what has God done for you? What is your Baal? Remember that everything you have is from of God. Everything you are is because God. Never forget the things he has brought you through. REMEMBER YOUR GOD O Israel. Remember your God all the time! The true test of your faith comes when everything is at peace.
Stay blessed and spread the word.
