|“A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, where is the honour due me? If I am a master, where is the respect due me?” says the LORD Almighty. “It is you O priests, who show contempt for my name.” “But you ask, ‘How have we shown contempt for your name?” ~Malachi 1:6 |
How do you react when you have work due for school? You work hard to make sure it is done on time. What about at work? You rush and do whatever it gets to be at work before your scheduled arrival time, and you also try to impress your boss. We do so much to impress people, what about God?
Think about the sacrifices you make for God. Do you even make any sacrifices for him?
Malachi wrote this book to encourage the Israelites to awaken from their slackness in relating to God. They had been through a lot of hardships and even turned their backs on God in the past, but they got it together and turned back to him and remained faithful for a while. However, during the period that this book was written, they were very lackadaisical in their walk with God because they hadn’t seen any big miracles, so they assumed God wasn’t rewarding them anymore for their faithfulness.
Can you relate this to your life? Remember how screwed up your spiritual life was before you found Christ? Then after you became born again, you were on fire for Christ for a while when you were seeing big changes and blessings in your life. As time passed, you started to feel less spiritual, and weren’t as active in your Christian walk as you were when you started. What happened? Why is it so easy for you to make sacrifices and work hard at impressing parents, partners, bosses, and teachers, but when it comes to God we feel the need to make bargains.
This is very pathetic, but we are all guilty of it. Why do we trample on God’s grace and patience? We need to wake up and get our walks together. God is calling us to repentance; so do not take his call lightly! Paul says in Hebrews 10:37-38 He who is coming will come and not delay. But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him. But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.
Please ensure that you will not be of those who shrink back and are destroyed!
Stay blessed and spread the word.
