|But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.Ė2 Corinthians 3:16
Allowing God to take away the veil that covers our faces is one of the hardest things for us to do as Christians. We have a desire to be viewed as perfect because we think that is what people need to see.
Yes God called you to be a role model, but the people you are leading to Christ need you to be a real model. You need to develop a spirit of transparency. Lost souls need you to be honest with them. They look up to you and they want to be where you are, but they may feel like they canít get there because they are not perfect like you are. Share the process with them! They need to know how you were able to leave your IMPERFECT life of sin. They want to know how you deal with your different temptations; they want to be able to relate to you. They need to know how you get up when you fall into sin? They need you to tell them how you get through, when you donít feel like God cares about you?
These are the things that people you are leading to Christ need to know! Remove your veil and become transparent. This may mean having to reveal past hurts and pains, it may mean having to share your struggles, it may mean having to reveal to people that you have problems with backsliding, etc. But by the same token, it may mean leading someone to Christ, it will mean helping someone deal with struggles, it will mean having someone to be accountable for, etc.
Donít ever think that people will lose respect for you if they know of your struggles; they will actually look up to you even more. Share you life experiences, and by being transparent, you take the burden off yourself to act perfect. Also transparency is an effective way to shame the devil! The devil uses shame as a tool to keep Christians from encouraging and strengthening each other, so when we can overcome shame, we overcome the devil.
I challenge you to take your veil off today and lead someone back to Christ.
Stay blessed and spread the word.
