|Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own, you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body -1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Every time I read these verses, I get shockwaves down my spine. Being considered to be God’s temple has got to be one of the greatest privileges that can be given to anyone on the face of the earth. A temple is considered to be something sacred that should be treated with the utmost care and respect. If you are truly in Christ, you should be filled with the Holy Spirit. (Read Romans 8) There is nothing that chases the Spirit of God away quicker than indulging in things that are contrary to the Spirit; sexual immorality, foul language, debauchery, drunkenness, lust, evil desires, etc. Clothe yourselves with kindness, compassion, humility, gentleness, patience, etc. Honor God with the temple.
“You are not your own, you were bought at a price.” When you borrow something from someone, what do you do with it? You most likely take better care of something that doesn’t belong to you, don’t you? Jesus Christ bought you at a price, and he expects you to treat it with care in everything you do. Let the glory of the temple within you shine for the world to see. Let the glory of the temple be apparent in the manner in which you conduct yourself. Honor God with the temple that is you!
“Therefore, honor God with your body.” Every where you are, in everything you do, and with everything you are, glorify God! “Your body was a willing horse when it was in the service of the devil; let it not be a sluggish hack now that it draws the chariot of Christ.” (Spurgeon)
