|“Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. But your iniquities have separated you from God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.” ~Isaiah 59:1-3
Have you ever prayed and fasted, and felt like God didn’t seem to care? What do you think the reason for this is? The reason is not a limitation on the divine power of God, or his unwillingness to listen, but the answer lies in you. The answer lies in your sins, ignorance, hard headedness, pride, etc. When you commit a sin, you are separated from God; there is a wall between you. No matter what you do, your efforts can never tear that wall down! People try doing good deeds, joining a Church, helping their neighbours etc, but the works of a sinful man is always in vain. It’s just like trying to clean a dirty surface with a dirty rag, hopeless (Isaiah 64:6)!
Sin is enslaving and besetting (Rom. 6: 17, 18; Heb. 12: 1). Sin terribly displeases the God we seek to serve. Sin is "grieving" to God (Heb. 3: 17). As seen, sin separates man from God (Isa. 59: 1, 2).
So how do we tear down this wall, you ask? Like I said earlier, this is impossible for us to do, but take heart because Jesus did it when he died in your place! So brethren he has taken the burden away from you by taking your place on that cross. Imagine then how terrible Jesus feels when you sin? Is this how we repay him? We owe it to Jesus to strive for his perfection. We owe it to him to try to avoid sin, and if we happen to slip we owe it to him to come before him and gravel at his feet. Come before him with a repenting heart and a willing and humble spirit. Don’t say that because you just told a little innocent lie, you’ll be all right, because every sin is equal in the eyes of God.
The more you sin, the further you move away from God, the further you are away from God, the more his face gets hidden from you, then the weaker you become, then eventually, you become doomed to eternal damnation. Sin is a big deal, and although we all fall into sin, true righteousness comes with how quickly you get back up and get back on the right track with God. All that he requires of you is to come to him, confess your sins, and accept your forgiveness that is already waiting for you.
“If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sin is left.” –Hebrews 10:26
Don’t test the Lord’s patience. You are judged more harshly than those who don’t know the Lord because you know, and if you continue to sin, then no sacrifice for sin is left, only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. –Hebrews 10:27
Was Jesus’ death worth it for you? How are you repaying him?
