|I bought a book called "Sarred By Struggle, Transformed By Hope. I haven’t read the book, but I was very drawn to title as soon as I spotted it on the bookshelf. When I think of being scarred by struggle, the first thing that comes to my mind is the story of Jacob wrestling with God in Genesis 32. During Jacob’s struggle, God touched the socket of his hip so that it was wrenched, and Jacob walked with a limp ever since. He was scarred for life from that struggle, just like many of us are. We all go through heartbreaks, sorrow, hopelessness, loneliness, fear, disappointments, etc, and we are left with scars. Our scars may not be as evident as that of Jacobs', but they are scars nonetheless. For example, a woman that has had her heart broken many times is going to have a hard time falling in love because of the scars left from her other relationships. A person that has always been disappointed is going to be hesitant about embarking on new opportunities.
What is you scar? What have you struggled with? Take heart because God is going to transform you and all you have to do is hope! Believe! Have faith!
If you read the story of Jacob’s struggle, you will see in verse 26 that Jacob was hopeful and relentless, “I will not let you go until you bless me,” and then in verse 28 God said to him, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome.” He was transformed because he had hope!
Scarred by STRUGGLE, transformed by HOPE. What is your story? Think about some of the scars in your life, how have you been transformed? What is your new name? When I started in college, I struggled with finding whom I was. I dealt with peer pressure, flirting with the world while trying to stay in a relationship with God, looking for love, etc. But I thank God today because when I eventually put my hope in Him, he gave me a new name! He called me Chosen By Grace.
Never let God go until he blesses you and gives you a new name. You may be scarred by STRUGGLE, but rejoice in knowing that you WILL be transformed by HOPE, if you only hang on to him!
Stay blessed and spread the word.
