|“The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone.” –Psalm 118:22
Have you ever been on a construction site? I don’t remember being on one, but I do remember a little while back when some contractors were re-tiling a bathroom at my house. They were almost finished when they noticed that they needed a small piece of tile to complete the work. We didn’t want to have to go out and purchase a whole box of tiles just for one little piece, so we searched around for the bathroom for one. After about 15 minutes of unsuccessful searching, one of the contractors dug through a bag of trash and surprisingly found a perfectly good piece of tile. With this tile, they were able to complete the work, and it looked beautiful.
You are probably asking yourself what the point of this cheesy story is. Just like that tile that was found in the trash, Jesus was rejected by his own people; he was killed and buried. On the third day, this stone that was rejected by men resurrected and became the capstone! The one that we rejected became the one that saved us and brought about our redemption. A rock that we thought of as unusable became that which we continuously build everything upon.
God has a habit of reversing people’s status. We are told in 1 Corinthians 1:28 that “God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things –and the things that are not –to nullify the things that are.” The poor and the needy end up satisfied, those who lose their lives for his sake gain everlasting life, while the proud and arrogant are humbled, and the ‘rich’ don’t inherit the kingdom of Heaven. What does this mean to you? You have to become nothing for God to make you into something. You have to give up your life so that He can give you eternal life. You have to become last so that you can become first. (Matt. 19:30)
I want you to apply this to your situations as well. When the world says no, we have a father that can say yes. When doctors say that there is no cure for your disease, God says that he can be your cure. When it seems like you are barren, God can make you fruitful. Do you believe that God can reverse your status? Remember the story of Sarah who was barren until the age of 90 when she bore Isaac? Remember the story of the woman who had been bleeding for 40 years, and just by touching the hem of Christ’s garment, she was immediately healed? Remember the story of Lazarus? Paul? Moses? David? Mary?
God can reverse your situation! Whatever it is that you are seeking him for, I challenge you today to believe that he can do it for you. No matter how impossible it may seem, I urge you to continue to steadfastly stand in faith. Regardless of how long you may have been crying out to him, you need not give him any rest until he responds!
The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone. You too can say this about your life and your situation. Have faith and give him no rest; he can reverse your status!
Stay blessed and spread the word.
