I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.–Romans 12:1-2

Many of you want to know what God’s will is for your lives, but you don’t seem to know how to find out. Paul beautifully describes what you ought to do in the verses above. He starts off by beseeching you “by the mercies of God.” The mercies of God have continuously proven his love for you over and over again, so when one pleads with you by them, you better heed!

According to Paul, there are three steps to know the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God.

Step 1: Submit yourself to God as a living sacrifice. Webster’s English Dictionary defines the word “sacrifice” as, forfeiture of something highly valued for the sake of one considered to have a greater value or claim. You have to be willing to forfeit yourself, your entirety, for the sake of God’s perfect will. You do this by being obedient to his words regardless of how difficult it may be. You should always live your life like this because it is your reasonable service.

Step 2: Do not be conformed to this world. “Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord” –2 Corinthians 6:17 God is urging you to separate yourself from the world. Light has not communion with darkness, so let the light of God shine through you so that your Christ-like qualities may be evident to the world. Give up the habits that you indulged in when you were still in the world and let the fruits of the Spirit work through you.

Step 3: Be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Renew your mind by thinking differently. 2 Corinthians 10:5 warns us to cast down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. The more you indulge yourself in the word of God, the more you think like him. The more you think like God, the more you become like him!

God’s will is not a secret, it is found in his word, and it is very clear. If you do the things outlined above and in the Bible, you will prove the will of God, you will know without a doubt what his will for you is, and you will find it to be good, acceptable, and perfect. You can read every self-help book there is to read about this, but ultimately, the only person that can really tell you what God’s will for you is, is God himself. Seek him and seek it through prayer and through his word! You can never go wrong with that.

Stay blessed and spread the word.
