|I was having a discussion with some friends about how stars market themselves. For example, right before Britney Spears’ album came out, she did a “quickie marriage” and all of a sudden, her record sales boosted. Tom Cruise professed his undying love for Katie Holmes right before both of their movies came out, and they both had great release numbers. We as a people buy into their marketing ploys so much that it is almost unbelievable. How is it that we get so excited about meaningless things like whom Jennifer Lopez is married to or having a child for, but when it comes to God, we grumble and treat it like school?
It is mind boggling to even think about how we are. I am very guilty of this myself. For example, I woke up very late one morning and I quickly prayed and just got ready for work. I told myself that I wouldn’t have time to do my morning devotions, but as I got prepared to leave my apartment a story about some stars appeared on TV and I was glued to that television for about 15 minutes. Just that quickly I told God that I didn’t have time for him, but I was willing to waste 15 minutes of my time on junk.
I am not going to preach to the choir here, but I want to encourage us all to be mindful of how we treat God in comparison to everything else in our lives. I want us to make a conscious effort to avoid placing God on the back burner. The more conscious we are about what we do, the less likely we are to fall into the same habit. Whenever you tell God that you have to cut your time together short, think about what you are doing it for, and then ask yourself if it is really worth it and then imagine how God feels about your decision.
Stay blessed and spread the word.
