Jesus replied, ďNo one who puts his hand to plough and looks back is fit for service in the Kingdom of God.Ē ĖLuke 9:62

I was reading Luke 9: 57-62, and it was about the cost of following Jesus. As Jesus was walking by in a town, some men wanted to follow him, but they wanted to first go back say goodbye to their families, bury their dead, etc. Christ said that "no one who puts his hand to plough and looks back is fit for service in the Kingdom of God."

I opened my Bible to this page after I prayed about what to write today. As I stared at the verse, I found myself saying, ďLord what am I supposed to write about this? How does this relate to us?Ē And boom! he hit me with an answer!!!!

I noticed that most Christians often put our service to God on the back burner. When the Spirit tells us to pray or to read our Bibles, or to minister to someone, we put that on the back burner till we finish what we are doing. Actually just a few minutes ago, I noticed that I was getting tired and I still hadnít prayed, read my Bible or sent out the Daily Inspiration for the day. So I decided that I would try to pray, and then send DI out later in the morning. I laid in my bed staring at the ceiling trying to figure out what to do, and eventually I dosed off for a few minutes, and then as soon as I woke up, the first thing I did was work out. My Spirit was convicting me to pick up my Bible, and I basically told God to hold on till I finished working out.

This is what the Father is speaking about in the verse above. HE is saying PUT ME FIRST! Do what I say when I say it. Donít say 'hold on a sec God, let me work out really quick, and then Iíll respond to your call.' Donít say that I will get to you as soon as I finish with my homework or telephone call or after the TV show. He wants us to leave everything and run to him when he calls. When my parents call me, I immediately leave whatever it is that I am doing alone and I see to what they want, and then I go back to finish what I was doing. But why then is it so easy for me to ignore the call of the GOD OF THE UNIVERSE? How would I feel if God put me on hold when I call on him?

We ought to serve God with complete and utter respect! Even though he has made it so easy for us to come before him and talk to him, it doesnít mean we should take him for granted. If we fear our parents, bosses, and other superiors and treat them with such respect, what is our justification for treating God the way we do? Those people are nothing compared to him, so we need to realize that and give fear and respect where it is rightfully due. When God says jump, donít think twice about it, just jump. When he says come here, donít hesitate, just go! If you look at the story of Abraham in Gen. 22, God blessed him with a son and then told him to sacrifice that son. What was Abrahamís response? Nothing! He just saddled the donkey and set out to do Godís will. This is what we need to imitate. It is imperative for us to develop the spirit of servitude. Put God first and everything else will fall into place.

Stay blessed and spread the word.
