|I got an email from a friend about a soldier who called his parents to see if he could bring a friend, who had lost an arm and a leg in battle, home. His parents made different excuses about why he shouldn’t and he got mad and hung up the phone and never called them back. A few months later, these parents got the news that their son had died, so they had to claim the body. When they got there, they noticed that their son was the friend that he was talking about; he had lost an arm and a leg on the battlefront. These parents couldn’t possibly feel any worse than they did as they realized how ignorant they had been.
The point that I am trying to make here is that we cannot make judgment calls about people just because they don’t look like us, they are poor, or are just different. In James 2:1-13, we are forbidden to show favouritsm to people who are more privileged over people who are not. Also in Hebrews 13:2, we are told not to forget loving and entertaining strangers (people who are different from us), because by so doing, we might be entertaining angels without knowing it. My father has actually had some experience with this, where a poor woman and her baby sat by his office begging for money everyday. He always gave her money, but others ran past her because she smelled and had flies around her all the time. One day after he gave her money, he turned around and she had disappeared and as he looked up he saw 2 angels flying towards the sky.
We have to be careful and remember to always love everyone, even those who are less privileged or different from us. We never know when we may end up in a position where we need to be loved or cared for. Treat others as you would want to be treated; regardless of who they are!
Stay blessed and spread the word.
