A man’s steps are directed by the Lord. How then can anyone understand his own way? –Proverbs 20:24

This is a very powerful verse that many of us still fail to understand. How can we form plans, and conduct business, independently of the Lord?

There are too many people in this world that still think that what they have or the positions they are in is because of their own doing. There are too many people that aren’t giving God the credit for what they have. Have you ever been that way? Have you ever gotten a promotion, good grade, relationship, recognition, etc and you just felt so good about yourself. You felt you deserved it and you walked around with a chip on your shoulders. Does this sound familiar?

I am going to be honest. When God started this ministry through me years ago, people sent me emails complimenting me on sermons, and my head got so big that it almost exploded. I thought I was so talented and special that I got extremely arrogant. All I am going to say is that he severely dealt with me and I was completely humbled.

The above verse goes against everything society tells us to believe. We are taught to take pride in ourselves for everything we accomplish, but God is telling you to take pride in him. John in John 3:27 said that “A man can receive only what is given him from heaven.” He is totally correct! Everything you are and have is because of God. The more you acknowledge this, the more dependent you are on God, and the more dependent you are on Him, the better he can order your steps.

Your steps are directed by the Lord, how then can you understand your own way? Why would you even try to order your steps? Acknowledge God in everything and for everything you have and are. And when you find yourself doing otherwise, pray Jeremiah’s prayer: “I know, O Lord, that a man’s life is not his own; it is not for man to direct his steps. Correct me, Lord, but only with justice – not in your anger, lest you reduce me to nothing.” –Jeremiah 10:23-24

Stay blessed and spread the word.
