|Then the man said, “Let me go for it is dawn.” But Jacob panted, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” –Genesis 32:26
I love this story of Jacob so much. Jacob, whose name meant manipulator, was indeed a master manipulator. He manipulated his father into giving him his brother’s blessings, and did so much more. “He has deceived me these two times: He took my birthright, and now he’s taken my blessing.” –Gen. 27:36. The ironic part of this story, however, is that Jacob’s character flaw paved the way for him to become the victim of his own deception. He found himself fleeing for his life because of something he had done.
Through all of his experiences, Jacob found himself at a point where he had enough. He was prepared to turn his life around, and what better way to do it than to turn to God. For an entire night, Jacob wrestled with ‘a Man’ (God) until he overcame him. This is an invaluable place for everyone to come to. A place, where after struggling to try to do things your way, you realize that God is greater than you are and that you cannot conquer anything until God has overcome you.
My favourite part of this amazing tale came when Jacob realized that he had been reduced to a place where all he could do was hold on to God with everything he had. He could not fight anymore; all he could do was hold on to God for dear life. Have you ever found yourself in this position? It is actually a pretty good place to be. Jacob had a lot of monsters in his life before his encounter with God, but as he wrestled, those monsters were being slain one by one. The same way, many of you have monsters in your lives. You have obstacles in your life that you can’t seem to overcome; you may find yourself in a sinful rut, or it could be something that you want that doesn’t seem to be coming quickly enough (a spouse, a job, a child, money, etc). Whatever it may be, you have to be willing to invoke the presence of God and make him slay your monsters. DECIDE TODAY THAT YOU ARE WILLING TO FIGHT FOR WHAT IS YOURS!
I challenge you to make up your mind that you will not let God go until he blesses you. It may take all day or all night, but you have to refuse to allow God’s presence to come in and leave without a blessing or a new anointing. Jacob did not let go until God gave him a new name; ‘Israel’! What is it that you want from God today brethren? Invoke the presence of God; pray to him all night long, cry out to him, beg him, do whatever it takes! Do not let him go until he blesses you. You have to come to God with DETERMINATION and with the mentality that he has to bless you. Stay right there in his presence all day and night if you have to. Pray like you have never prayed before! Wrestle with God all night if you have to. Just please, DO NOT LET HIS PRESENCE LEAVE without your blessing. DO NOT LET GOD LEAVE UNLESS HE ANOINTS YOU! Don’t let him go! Hold on until he gives you a new name! Hold on until he brings your blessing! Don’t let God go!
Stay blessed and spread the word.
