|"Yet you have not called upon me, O Jacob, you have not wearied yourselves for me, O Israel." ~Isaiah 43:22
I was watching a show where a girl woke up one Sunday morning and said that she didnít feel like going to church, so she went to the mall instead. This is something that we would normally overlook, but something about this scene really stuck in my mind.
There are so many times that we worship God out of convenience. We have turned God into someone that we can worship when we feel like it or when our schedule permits us to. The God of the universe is not some mediocre God that wants convenient worshippers. He wants us to serve him even when we really donít feel like it. He wants us to seek him even if we think we canít handle it. If you look through Matthew, Mark and Luke, you will see that when Jesus first called his disciples to follow him, they never once questioned him. They left everything they were doing and immediately followed him. These are the kind of disciples that we are called to be.
When Christ was nailed to the cross, beaten, torn, insulted and killed, he didnít think it was fun, but he knew that it was going to be worth it. Did he make a mistake? Do we really deserve his mercy? Is this how we repay someone that jumped in front of the bullet for us?
This Christian walk is not always going to be fun, but we need to have the mentality that Jesus had when he gave up his life for us. We need to believe that it is going to be worth it. We need to be willing to give up our lives for Christ as well. He is not asking us to die for him! He only wants us to make sacrifices for him. He wants us to serve him because it is worth it. He wants us to be willing to be persecuted for his name. He wants us to go out into the world and tell people about him. He wants us to get down on our knees a couple of times a day to pray to him. He wants us to learn more about him and get to know him personally through his words. He wants us to love him like he loves us. He wants us to be separate from the world. He wants us to use words with wisdom.
If we do all of these, he has promised us eternal life filled with blessings and Godís favour.
O how merciful the God we serve is!!!! He didnít die for us because of any rewards or recognition he would get from it; he did it out of his mercy and love for us, yet he promises us great things in return for our love. Do I even need to say anything else? This ought to be enough to convict us to get our acts together and start worshipping like we really ought to!
Worship God in and out of convenience! Itís the least we can do, isnít it?
Stay blessed and spread the word.
