|Why are you so downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Saviour and my God. -Psalm 42:5
Have you ever felt like not praying? Have you ever gone down on your knees and just couldnít think of anything but the sleep you were missing? I am sure that we have all felt that way at some point in our lives. Jesus even knew that we would face this because he told his disciples in Luke 18 that they should pray and not give up.
How do you deal with this feeling? Take David as an example; be honest with God, and tell him how you feel. David was always completely open with God about his feelings and emotions. Look at the verse above, he is revealing his spiritual state, and then telling himself what to do about it. I urge you to do the same. The more honest you are about your feelings and spiritual state, the easier it will be to deal with.
When you donít feel like praying, PRAISE GOD! God loves praise, and that is why he loved David so much; he even considered him a man after his own heart. When you are after Godís heart, you do whatever it takes to obey him and ensure that he is happy despite the way you feel. When you canít pray, praise him like David did in Psalm 42. God does not love you any less because you feel distant from him and he understands that you are going to have off days, but just make sure that even if your mind may be distant, your heart should never move an inch away from God. Your heart should be constantly praising God!
Stay blessed and spread the word.
