|“Let us build these towns,” he said to Judah, “and put walls around them, with towers, gates and bars. The land is still ours, because we have sought the Lord our God; we sought him and he has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered -2 Chronicles 14:7
If you read the entire 2 Chronicles 14 passage you will see how God delivered Judah from the hands of her enemy because of the righteousness of King Asa. King Asa removed the idols and its worshippers from the temple and forced Judah to seek the Lord. After she had been cleansed from her unrighteousness, King Asa spoke the above verse to them; he said “Let us build these towns and put walls around them with towers, gates and bars.”
To me, this verse symbolizes something that is very essential to the life of every Christian. When you become cleansed from unrighteousness like Judah was, you ought to build up your spirit (let us build these towns) and then guard it with the word of God (with towers, gates, and bars). Many Christians forsake this vital part of their Christianity and it is a very dangerous element to neglect.
In Matthew 12:43-45, Jesus speaking to the Pharisees said, “When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.” When you become delivered from your sinful life, you become a target for the devil and if he comes back to you and finds your heart unoccupied, he brings stronger temptations and it becomes a lot harder to overcome them.
I urge you today brethren to drench yourselves in the word of God and fill your hearts and spirit with it. Meditate on the word and guard it with everything you are! And when in doubt, seek the Lord your God, and he will give you rest on every side. When you find Christ, guard your hearts again false teachings, guard your minds against lustful and carnal thoughts, and guard your spirits lures of the enemy. Build up yourself in this way and I assure you that you will prosper!
Stay blessed and spread the word.
