|This is what the Lord says: “Let not this wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord
This excerpt was taken from a chapter where Jeremiah was warning the people of Judah and Jerusalem about their sin and the punishment that God had pronounced upon them. Even during this time, in such catastrophic circumstances like those Jeremiah predicts, God was describing what had any worth or value to him. It was not valor, strength, wisdom, wealth, status, religious titles, etc. All of these things were bound to do nothing in the midst of a devastating invasion. The only thing that mattered and counted for anything was a meaningful, living, positive relationship with God. We can see a perfect example of this in the devastating hurricanes that recently hit America. America's name, power, or wealth could not protect her; it did not even prepare her. What is she bragging about now? Please let this serve as a wake up call to us all. Let us wake up and begin to seek God like we ought to!
Many people in Churches today fight for status and titles, but God is warning you today that all those things are going to come to nothing, they actually may be the thing that keeps you out of the Kingdom of Heaven. 1 Corinthians 1:27 tells us that “But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things-and the things that are not-to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.”
To you who brag about being 'something' in the world's eyes, God will use those people that consider themselves to be nothing to shame you! So why don’t you humble yourselves and begin to hunger for God like you were created to do. God prefers to work through the humble, weak and poor vessels because the have little to brag about. What, that isn’t of the world, do you have to brag about? Do you seek God? Do you know him? Do you understand his words? God delights in those people that have answered yes to all three questions.
Pride, arrogance, status, titles, names, wealth, etc, count for nothing in God’s eyes, so I challenge you to consider yourselves to be nothing today. Humble yourselves. Deny your flesh the desire for worldly attention, and earnestly seek the attention of the One that is far greater than man. Strip yourselves of yourselves and decrease so that God may have room to increase in you. Use the Servant in Isaiah 53 as an example to follow; he became nothing in the world’s eyes, yet he was everything in God’s eyes. How do you think you look in God's eyes? Humbling thought, isn't it?
I ask you again brethren, what are you bragging about?
Stay blessed and spread the word.
