|Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. ~Philippians 4:6-7
Often times, we get choked up with different worries and struggles that we tend to lose sight of the big picture.
I was listening to a sermon by Joel Osteen on television last night, and he told a story about a friend of his who had a flat tire on the highway. He pulled over to change the tire, and as he was doing this, a drunk driver crashed into him, and he lost both of his legs. Many people thought that this man would be angry with God, but surprisingly, he was just thankful that he hadnít lost his life.
How many of you can honestly say that you would have the same attitude if you were in a similar situation as this man?
Well brethren, that is the attitude that God wants us to have. He wants us to always have an attitude of gratitude, but to many, this is easier said than done. Why do we always focus on the negative aspects of our lives; what we donít have, tasks we failed at, opportunities weíve missed, etc.?
It is important for you to change your attitude in order to find and have the joy that many die trying to find. The more you focus on the positive things in your life, the better your attitude about yourself and your life can be. The verse above says that we should not be anxious about anything, but we ought to bring our requests before God with thanksgiving. Many people in the world will give anything to be in the position you are today, and it is important for you to realize this and be more grateful to God for where you are right now.
If you had a child that continuously thanked you for every little thing you did for him/her, I bet you would want to do more for this child. God is the same way with us. How would you feel if someone you have given so much to always comes back to you with a different complaint everyday? Iím sure many people would say theyíd feel irritated. Well put yourself in Godís shoes. How do you think he feels about your attitude?
Your thanksgiving should always outweigh your requests. Do not take what you have right now for granted because you want more. He knows what you need, and now you know what he wants. DEVELOP AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE!
Stay blessed and spread the word.
