|I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the Lord. They will be my people and I will be their God, for they will return to me with all of their heart. ~Jeremiah 24:7|
If you read the preceding verses of Jeremiah 24, you will see that God was revealing a vision of two baskets of figs to Jeremiah; one of the baskets had good figs and the other had bad ones. The good ones represented the exiles from the land of Judah that would return and become a faithful nation, and the verse above is speaking about them. Even though these people had strayed, God saw a potential in them and he promised to work on that.
This relates to us today as well. Does God see a potential in you? God blesses our efforts and desires, but if there is nothing there, we leave him with nothing to work with. He says in the verse above that he will give them a heart to know Him! Do you have a desire to know God? Are you seeking him in your heart?
The incredible thing about God is that we canít even serve him or get to know him on our own. He has to teach us how to love him and how to get to know him. Are you ready to return to God with all of your heart? God searches your heart, so a desire for him has to be in there. We canít keep coming to God day after day after we have sinned and fallen short of his glory and just asking him to forgive us. We have to have a desire in our hearts to want to be forgiven, a desire to want to know him even better, a desire to want to be in love with him.
God wants to give you a heart to know him, he wants to be your God, but the only thing he requires of you is that you WANT; you DESIRE to return to him with all of your heart.
Stay blessed and spread the word.
