It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees. ~Psalm 119:71

I pondered on this verse as I read the Bible this morning. I took a look at my life to see how it related to me in any way. There are many times when everything is 'peachy' in our lives, but we seem to forget about our walk with Christ at those times. There are many times that it is easier for us to continue to fall into the same sin and continue to ask God for forgiveness because we think we can. There are many times when we just become lackadaisical in our relationship with God. Why is it that when everything is good in our lives, we tend to forget to do our part in our relationship with God? If you look at the Israelites, after God saved them from the hands of Pharaoh, they just continued to worship idols until they were afflicted (with wars, battles, and other hardships). It wasnít until these afflictions came that they remembered and acknowledged their Saviour.

Certain things happen in our lives, and we wonder why God would let something like that happen to us. Maybe he wants to manifest himself as King in our lives, maybe he wants to lead us to repentance, or maybe he just wants us to revive our spark for him. Remember how God hardened Pharaoh's heart against the Israelites so that his greatness could be made manifest. Maybe he put that hardship in your life for the same reason. David in this verse is rejoicing in his affliction because it helped him to learn Godís decrees. We also need to have the same mentality.

Remember that God cares for you and always has your best interest at heart. When things happen in your life that you do not understand, donít question God; just place it all in his hands. Look at what happened to Job. God wanted to prove to the devil that Job was so steadfast that he would not curse him if he took everything away from him. We all need to live our lives in a manner that will cause God to have such confidence in us as he did in Job.

Stay blessed and spread the word.
